For this week we have been working with web 2.0 tools. We were put in groups and assigned to a different tool. My group was assigned to Animoto. Animoto is an alternative to power point. You have themes to choose from and you can add text, pictures, and music. The free version can only be 30 seconds long, but if you buy a package there is a lot more you can do with it. We had to create a profile and create an example of the tool. We were to line them up with the teaching standards of Tennessee.

For this activity we had to pick a place to go on a "picture field trip" with our students. We were to go somewhere and take pictures and load them into voice thread. We would use this as a teaching tool. I chose to go to the Memphis zoo to the Once Upon a Farm area. I used Kindergarden standards for TN as the basis for the trip. The students are gonna learn about characteristics of farm animals and where they live. They will also learn about the purpose for some of them. We then had to do a voice over using a script we had already made. This is how we would teach the lesson and how the students would go on a field trip. Today we finished up the project by putting th Voice Thread into weebly and making an E Quiz using Google Docs. Google Docs is a very easy tool to use. You can get on through your e mail and just go to documents and you can access it through that. You go in and create your title and get going very quickly. It is a very user friendly. They have all several types of questions to choose from. You can have fill in the blank, multiple choice, and two types of rating questions. It is very handy for those who want to teach. This whole process has opened my eyes to a whole new way of teaching my students. For those who missed a lecture and/or a quiz voicethread and e quiz are excellent tools to get them caught back up. This is even good for those students who understand what you have been going over while a majority of the class still needs some more practice. While you are working with the students who do not understand it yet, your upper level students can be having a lesson that is on their level. There are just so many things and ways you can use these two tools. click here to see the pictures in the voice thread. Below is my voicethread video on characteristics of farm animals. To see the e quiz just click here One of the very first things that we did in this education class was to create a resume. For me, it was actually pretty hard. I have no work experience and I had never written one before. Let alone even remotely think about what to put in one. We just got our resumes back from being edited and marked. It has been one heck of a journey to get it where it is now.
The first thing we had to do was to put the information in a list form. It was not formatted or anything. Dr. Clifford just wanted the information. I had a really hard time with that. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing or what information to put in. My list was not completed and it was not even half a page. The next step was the formate it. For this step I got my mom's help. She teaches this stuff at the school she works at. She was very helpful and I should have called her from the beginning but that's ok. You live and you learn. This took a really really long time to do. We spent a few hours e mailing back and forth trying to figure out what format to use and what information to put in. I ended up doing the format wrong. I had to go back in and change the fonts and the size of some of the headings and subheadings. I learned a lot after this process of creating it and fixing it. After this it was sent off the the resume people at Union to mark it and tell us what needed to be fixed. For this last step I thought my paper was gonna be completely red but it was not. It had a few comments on it but not a lot. They were easy to fix. I did have trouble with one part of it that took me a while to understand what I needed to do. Other then that the last process was easy and went pretty smooth. My resume should be pretty close to perfect! If you would like to see it click here The other day in class we were able to work a lot in Learn 360. Learn 360 is a website that is filled with teaching videos of all sorts! They have a really great variety to choose from. There are so many videos and they cover so many topics. Anything you can think of to teach they will have a video that you can use.
For this task, we had to choose a standard that Tennessee has in a subject area and find a video that goes along with our topic. I chose to use the book Charlotte's Web by E.B. White and use the science standard 5- Biodiversity and Change. The grade level expectation is GLE0507.5.1 Investigate physical characteristics associated with different groups of animals and the checks for understanding is 0507.5.1 Classify animals according to their physical characteristics. I chose a video that is about different animals on a farm. They had several really good ones that I could have used but I think the one I chose is the best one for the standards. I have this activity pinned for fifth graders. I believe that will really enjoy the book as well as learning about all the different farm animals and about all the things that makes them different. In conclusion this task was very successful and pretty fun. I have really enjoyed coming up with mini lessons to do. Finding a good video to go along with the lesson was fun as well. Here is the link to the video so you can watch it and tell me what you think! : ) Thank you for your input! http://www.learn360.com/ShowVideo.aspx?ID=256282 This week in class we have been working with wallwisher and talking about the STAR Center. Tuesday we even were able to visit the STAR Center here in Jackson. First I will talk about wallwisher then I will talk about the STAR Center.
Wallwisher is a website where you can put "sticky notes" on peoples accounts and have notes on yours. It is really easy to get an account set up. I think it is very user friendly. Wallwisher is also set up to where it can be used for a scavenger hunt on the internet! We played around with this a little because my teacher had one set up to help us get familiar with the STAR Center. If you have not already guessed these two projects kind of tie in to each other. Now to talk about the STAR Center. The STAR Center is a place for people with all kinds of disabilities. They work with babies all the way to adults. One of their biggest things is they help people find jobs. They work with them on their computer skills and communication skills. They are very skilled at getting them jobs when they are ready. Most of the people come about four days a week. Another import thing that they have is called art therapy. This program is one that uses art to help patients who have had strokes, gone through traumatic experiences and many other situations. It's purpose is not to teach them art but to use it to help them. There are so many great things that the STAR Center has. They are a huge blessing to so many people and families. They are very flexible with their clients and really want the best for them. I would encourage you to get on their website and just read what they are all about : ) In conclusion this task has been very interesting and informational. Wallwisher will be beneficial in the classroom and learning about the STAR Center will be just be useful knowledge to have. Click here to visit wallwisher! Click here to visit the STAR Center! In class this week we have been going over Acceptable Use Policies and Copyright and Fair Use Guidelines for Teachers. We have also been experimenting with ToonDoo, which is a website where you can make your own cartoons! It is very cool. I have really learned a lot about copyright issues this week that I did not know about and it has been quit interesting.
You never really think about copyright issues really. At least I never have until learning about it. I have known what it was and understood the concept of it but it is amazing what all really is considered being "copyrighted". The one thing that just really blew me out of the water was the guidelines for showing videos in a classroom. I don't know about yall, but at my old school we watched videos all the time! Well, come to find out technically your not supposed to do that...... How shocking, right?! You can really only use videos for educational purposes and there are rules under that guideline as well. Pretty sure a majority of my teachers have committed a crime. So yea all of that has been interesting. ToonDoo has been really fun to work with. It is a neat way to be creative in doing this research and just in general. It is not every day you get to make your own comic strip!! You should most def try it : ) just go to toondoo.com and let your imagination run wild! In conclusion class was pretty good this week and very informational and interesting. I have enjoyed working with toondoo for the most part. The hardest thing has been coming up with a storyline. Thats it for now! Have a very blessed day!! The other day in EDU 250 we got to make a grade book using excel. I got really excited when I found out we would get to make one and use it. I can remember being little and going to the "teacher store" with my mom and getting my own grade book. It was yellow with an apple on it and it had some other colorful animations on it. I would put down my dolls names and give them test and of course, write it in my grade book! I have had some practice with grade books but it was different making one.
We had to get into excel and once the spreadsheet came up we put our teachers name and the name of the class and the time line of the course which is FALL 2011. We also set up a place for our last and first name as well as a place for grades of all of our tasks. Once we had that typed in we started to format it to the way it needed to be. The most challenging part of that was trying to get it to all fit on one spread sheet. We also got to make an attendance form. It is set up like the grade page except instead of our tasks we put the days that we have class. This was a little harder to do. A few more challenging things came up such as figuring out how to put in the phrase "fall break" and "Exams" in correctly. Once we were told how to do that it became fairly easy to make. I really enjoyed this task and found it,overall, easy to do. There were a few challenges here and there but thats life lol. I look forward to being able to use it and put in my grades and get some more practice in because it has been a few years since I played with a grade book : ) click here to view record book I first started cheering in the 8th grade and fell in love with it! I cheered all the way through 12th grade. There was nothing like putting on my uniform for a football game. Pep rallys were the highlight of school! All of my friends cheered as well so we were together all the time. Cheering has been a big part of my life. It helped shape me into the women I am today. I want to share that passion and love for it with others in hope that other girls will enjoy it just as much as me!
With cheerleading comes a lot of discipline. It requires working out and stretching. Stretching is very important because of the jumps and various things we do. You have a toe touch, which is my favorite, a hurky, side hurdler and pike. These are the most popular. Stunting is also a big part of cheering. It requires lots of stretching for this as well as concentration. With stunting, you have three bases and a flyer. Four girls in total. There are many several stunts to do such as a basic stunt, extension and liberty. The ways to dismount are full downs, which are very fun but kind of hard, and cradles. There are many others I am sure but those are the o |
